An adult Brown Pelican covered with oil found on Grande Isle, Louisiana while he is cleaned at Fort Jackson by a team from Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, Inc. hired by B.P. to rescue animals effected by the oil spill while Secretary of the Interior,Secretary Salazar looks on. Secretary Salazar visited Louisiana to check on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the situation caused by the B.P. oil spill in person.
Oil has spilled continually from the B.P. oil well at the site of the Deepwater Horizon rig that sunk to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico after an explosion on April 2010. The coast line from Louisiana to Florida is threatened by oil that is still gushing from the well. 12 birds have been rescued so far at Fort Jackson where Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, Inc. is in charge of cleaning animals with oil on them.
